With its upscale cabin, premium amenities, and signature Scandinavian styling, the Volvo XC60 is a compelling option among compact luxury SUVs. It offers comfortable accommodations, flexible cargo capacity, and a handsome design with ample curb appeal. It's also engaging to drive, thanks to its confident handling and potent performance – particularly in its twincharged plug-in hybrid variant.
Discerning Trevose drivers have no shortage of compact luxury SUVs to choose from. Still, the 2024 Volvo XC60's well-rounded sophistication, practicality, and driving enjoyment make it one of the most appealing models in the class. To demonstrate what we mean, here's a quick look at how it compares in a few key areas to another segment standout, the Audi Q5.
2024 Volvo XC60 vs. Audi Q5: Performance
The 2024 XC60 comes standard with Volvo's B5 powertrain, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission enables swift and smooth gear changes, while a 48-volt mild-hybrid system helps optimize efficiency and responsiveness. All-wheel drive is standard on all XC60 models, providing enhanced handling and surefooted control for wintry Trevose commutes. The 2024 Audi Q5's base powertrain is the 40 TFSI, a 2.0-liter turbo-four rated at 201 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. The Q5 also comes standard with quattro® AWD.
2024 Volvo XC60 vs. Audi Q5: Plug-in Hybrid
Both models offer plug-in hybrid variants for drivers seeking a more exciting and efficient driving experience. Besides being easier to say, the Volvo XC60 Recharge boasts higher performance, better efficiency, and more electric range than the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e.
The XC60 Recharge adds a supercharger and a plug-in electric powertrain to the base 2.0-liter turbo-four, increasing performance to a stout 455 horsepower and 523 pound-feet of torque. It achieves an EPA-estimated 63 MPGe (miles-per-gallon equivalent). And with an EPA-estimated 35 miles of pure-electric range, it's a great way to get the EV experience without a 100% commitment to battery power.
While the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e's plug-in hybrid powertrain significantly increases performance (362 hp, 369 lb-ft), it can't keep up with the XC60 Recharge. It comes close in efficiency, with an EPA-rated 60 MPGe. However, it has just 23 miles of estimated electric-only range.
2024 Volvo XC60 vs. Audi Q5: Interior
The Volvo XC60 and Audi Q5 are evenly matched for passenger volume, with each providing ample headroom and legroom for passengers in both rows. However, the XC60 offers more utility thanks to its maximum cargo capacity of 63.3 cubic feet. The base Audi Q5 has up to 54.1 cubic feet of storage with the rear seats folded. However, that number drops to 53.5 when equipped with a panoramic sunroof – a feature that comes standard in the Volvo XC60.
2024 Volvo XC60 vs. Audi Q5: Features
Both models come standard with a suite of advanced safety features, including collision mitigation, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. However, the Volvo XC60's base trim also includes Oncoming Lane Mitigation, Road Sign Detection, Driver Attention Warning, steering-responsive headlights, and a 12-inch digital instrument panel. These technologies either cost more or aren't available in the Audi Q5.
The Volvo XC60 also offers a few amenities you won't find in the Q5 lineup. Notable examples include front-seat massage, four-zone automatic climate control, a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system, and Volvo's Pilot Assist semi-autonomous hands-on driving system.
