Power and Performance

New this year, every Volvo XC60 gets hybrid power in one way or another. There are three engines available, depending on the trim level you go for and your preference for power, with four pulse-quickening power ratings available. The BMW X3, on the other hand, also has a few different engine options, but not all are hybrid, and they can't compete with the high level of performance and engaging handling that's offered by the Volvo XC60.

For example, the Volvo SUV includes two mild hybrid gas powertrain options that drivers can choose from, as well as a ground-breaking plug-in hybrid option that can produce 400 horsepower or 415 horsepower, depending on your trim. But the BMW tops out with just 382 horsepower for its top-performing model.

Not only does our Volvo produce more power and options overall, but its innovative hybrid engines also have more efficiency and a greater range than the BMW as well. Drivers can look forward to a range of 19 to 32 miles on electric-only driving with the Volvo, with a combined total hybrid / gas range of 520 miles. But the BMW X3 hybrid has an 18-mile electric-only and a mere 340-mile combined driving range.

Interior

From comfort to cargo space, the Volvo XC60 also gives you more of what you want inside the vehicle than the BMW X3. Look for more rear space for cargo in the XC60 over the X3, and expect more in the way of legroom, shoulder room, and elbow room for you and your passengers in both rows.

Luxury and Tech Features

When it comes to the amenities on your SUV, the Volvo XC60 once again outshines the competition. The Volvo model gets more features standard, and it has a comprehensive menu of add-on options and packages as well, giving you plenty of opportunities to personalize your ride. There are several features that drivers love listed as standard for the Volvo SUV and not the BMW, including:

  • A panoramic sunroof
  • Wireless device charging
  • Heated front seats
  • Android Auto smartphone integration
